STOL Kit

Postby kiwiflyer on Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:23 pm

Hello
This looks like another wonderful utility to add to the list of great products you have given us. Before I buy it, I just have a couple of questions..
1. Do you have to add the rockets and parachutes to a particular aircraft before every flight or does it change the aircraft.cfg (or other file) so that once you have modified an aircraft it is permanently installed?
2. What keys do you use to fire the rockets, stop the rockets, deploy the chutes and release the chutes?
3. Do the rockets have special night effects? (I once watched an R4D (Navy version of C47/DC3) of the US Navy do a night take-off using JATO. It was an AMAZING sight! :o

Thanks

1. No, rocket settings will be saved in a special file (My Documents\STOL Kit\SettingsFS?.xml) and will be applied every time you load the aircraft. STOL Kit does not modify aircraft files themselves. To remove rockets, you need to delete them just like you added them. Or if you uninstall STOL kit, all rockets/chutes will disappear too.

2. No special night effects, sorry. The exhaust will be illuminated at night (except in DirectX10 mode), but that's it. We may be looking at improving night effects in the future, but I cannot promise it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can see how the special night effects would be a challenge, but if you could pull it off - WOW! :D

You didn't answer my second question - how does the user activate the rockets/chutes? Is there a set of key presses (that could be programmed into HOTAS system) or is done automatically?

One last question and I promise I'll shut up. (And almost certainly buy the program!)
Would this work with AI aircraft? If not, is there any chance you could modify it so it would? If it worked for AI, it would be a very nice enhancement as only a few AI military aircraft have deploying braking chutes.

Rockets/chutes are activated by the user. You define the necessary keystrokes in program options.

The program currently only supports the user aircraft, but adding braking chutes to military AI aircraft is a great idea. Added to the to do list.
